TWO people were arrested after a large-scale disturbance outside of a Darlington town centre pub.
The violence, which came not long after the end of England's World Cup defeat to Uruguay last night, was outside of the William Stead and close to The Northern Echo's offices on Priestgate.
Around 20 to 30 people spilled out onto the street as scuffles broke out between men and women.
The incident calmed somewhat before flaring up again just as police arrived en masse after the alarm was raised.
A number of people ran off and were pursued by officers on foot and in cars.
Bus drivers had to pick their way through the crowd as the fracas continued around them.
A spokesman for Darlington police said two men had been arrested on suspicion of public order offences. He said CCTV was used in the investigation.
