A POGO stick, a clothes horse and a set of bunk bed ladders are just some of the items to be left behind by train travellers over the years.

Unclaimed lost property found on the Tyne and Wear Metro since 2009 is to be auctioned off for charity tomorrow (Thursday, June 19).

Among the lots up for sale are a pair of boxing gloves, a guitar, a foot spa and a fishing rod, along with the more mundane 76 umbrellas, 29 walking sticks and 289 items of new clothing.

More than 4,000 pieces of lost property will be auctioned in the passenger waiting area at Park Lane Interchange, in Sunderland starting at 10.30am.

Proceeds of the auction, the first to be held by Metro operators Nexus since 2009, will be split between three Sunderland-based charities.

Director General of Nexus, Bernard Garner said: “It’s been five years since the last Metro lost property auction took place so we’ve got a real treasure trove of lost property.

“It really is amazing what passengers lose on the Metro, from the mundane everyday things, to the more weird and wonderful. All proceeds from the auction will be donated to charity, like in previous years.”
