THE MAYOR of Darlington opened a cycle parking facility this morning (June 18).
The official opening – presided over by Councillor Gerald Lee – coincided with Bike to Work Week and saw commuting cyclists offered breakfast at Darlington Town Hall.
The purpose-built cycle parking site stands in front of the town hall and has capacity for 40 bikes.
David Lyonette, Darlington Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport, said: “The new cycle parking facility will make it easier for people in Darlington to enjoy the benefits of cycling into town instead of using their car and this is not only great for the environment but also great for your health.”
The weatherproof structure can be accessed 24 hours a day and is free to anyone who registers for a keycard.
To register, take proof of identification and proof of address to the Customer Contact Centre at Darlington Town Hall.
