Six people were arrested during a protest against plans to create a mosque in the North-East.
The march was held against plans to open a new mosque in St Mark’s Road, Sunderland, on Saturday, while anti-fascist groups held a counter demonstration.
Dozens of police officers were deployed in the area and the two groups were kept on opposite sides of the road.
Six people were arrested for causing disorder at the protest.
MAN KILLED: A 60-year-old man died after he was hit by a car travelling eastbound on the A1058 Coast Road in Wallsend at the slip road for Battle Hill in North Tyneside at 11.40pm on Friday.
A 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the collision and is helping police with their enquiries.
Officers are asking anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them on 101.
