SIX people were injured following a crash between a car and a minibus in North Yorkshire.

The crash happened on the A172 in the Stokesley area at about 7.40pm on Saturday (March 1) and has left an elderly man seriously hurt.

Police say a red Hyundai Getz was travelling out of the village of Ingleby Cross when it collided with a white mini-bus travelling along the A172 towards Stokesley at the crossroads.

North Yorkshire fire crews were called to free the people trapped in the car using cutting gear and say they left six casualties to receive care from ambulance crews.

The driver of the Hyundai, a man in his 60s from Essex, and two passengers - a woman in her 50s from Essex and a 90-year-old man - were all taken to James Cook University Hospital.

The driver and woman passenger were released after treatment, however, the 90-year-old man remains in hospital with serious injuries.

Two 15-year-old boys from Middlesbrough who were travelling in the mini-bus were treated for whiplash.

Police say the driver of the mini-bus, who is from the Saltburn area, and around 20 other passengers on the bus, were physically uninjured but left shaken by the collision.

Police area appealing for witnesses to the collision and to anyone who saw either of the two vehicles prior to the crash to contact them.
