FANS are snapping up copies of a terraces favourite in the hope of making it the cup final number one.
Long-suffering Sunderland supporters have adopted D:Ream’s 1994 hit Things Can Only Get Better since Gus Poyet took over at the Stadium of Light last autumn.
Now a fans’ campaign is aiming to get the track back into the UK chart announced a few afters after Sunday’s Wembley clash.
D:Ream member Al Mackenzie said: “It’s all a bit surreal.
“But Things Can Only Get Better is a positive song and to be fair it seems to have stood the test of time. If it works for SAFC then I’m delighted.
“I’ll be watching the cup final. I think it’s going to be difficult for Sunderland but I think they can do it.”
Things Can Only Get Better is available on iTunes, priced 99p.
The song was also adopted by the Labour Party for its 1997 General Election campaign.
