COMPOST seized from drug dealers has been used to make up attractive plant pots for a north Durham community.

They were handed over by ten young people involved in a gardening project to keep them on the right track earlier today. (Friday, February 28)

Durham Agency Against Crime’s Haggrid project donated ten planters to Medomsley Village Residents Association to be placed Medomsley Methodist Church.

The planters are 20 litres in size and filled with a mixed spring bedding plants, including polyanthus, viola, skimmia, conifer centre pieces and various hardies.

PC Iain Robertson said: “Unopened bags of compost taken during raids at cannabis farms have been donated by the policing team and the kids have planted them up.

“As well as doing something worthy, they are getting a qualification.

“We have sent them back into a community who deserves them. We have taken something bad and turned it into something good.”
