A DIABETIC woman has thanked police officers for breaking into her house and potentially saving her life after she was taken ill.

Officers were called to a house in the Pierremont area of Darlington in the early hours of Sunday (February 23).

A spokesman for Darlington police said: “The ambulance service had taken a call from a 28-year-old- woman, who stated that she was having a diabetic ‘hypo’.

“When the crew arrived at the house, they found it in darkness, could not get anyone to answer the door, and were unable to gain access.

“Following the call for police assistance, our officers arrived on scene within minutes.

“The decision was made to force entry, and the woman was found inside, having collapsed.”

The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, received appropriate medical treatment and is now on the mend.

She said: “I really would like to thank them both for breaking into my house to save my life on Sunday morning.

“If it wasn't for them, I would probably be in a diabetic coma or even dead now.”

Darlington police posted details of the incident on social media and it has received dozens of ‘likes’.
