A SUPERMARKET has come under fire for “front-loading” sandwiches to make them appear more appetising and filling.
One customer was so incensed by the lack of chicken in his butty he complained to staff at Morrisons, in Barnard Castle.
John Walker, who lives in the town, said: “I think the public would be interested to know they are often being conned when buying ready made meat sandwiches - chicken and bacon in my case.
“They often front-load them, making it look like a hearty meat sandwich when in fact there is very little throughout the rest of it.”
When he returned his sandwich, Mr Walker said he was told most were made in the same way.
“That doesn't make it right. Would you make a sandwich in this way? I know I don't,” he added.
“No apology was given by the store. Eventually a replacement was offered. Needless to say, I did not opt for the chicken and bacon.”
A Morrisons spokesperson said: “Thousands of customers buy and enjoy our freshly made sandwiches every day.
“We are sorry that Mr Walker was unhappy with his selection. Our customer care team will be in touch with him at the earliest possible opportunity.”
