CAMPAIGNING women are planning a North-East march to ‘reclaim the night’.
Supporters of the Durham Women Rising campaign, which aims to stop violence against women and girls, will stage a Reclaim the Night March in Durham city centre on Friday, February 28.
The event, starting in Durham Market Place at 8.30pm, is described as “a chance to reclaim the night and the streets from the threat of violence”.
It is part of a six-week awareness-raising festival, running until March 30.
There has already been a policy forum debate and panel discussion event.
Organisers also want to hear women’s experiences of surviving the economic downturn, in particular dealing with food banks.
Women are invited to tell their stories at Feeding the Family storytelling drop-in sessions at the Durham Community Support Centre, Redhills Miners’ Hall, Durham, on February 24 and 25 and March 3 and 4, from 9.30am to 12.30pm.
Many other events are also planned. For full details, visit durhamwomenrising.wordpress.com
