PROMISING hockey and netball players at Yarm Preparatory School have showcased their talents and dominance after winning titles in both sports.

The U-11 girls’ hockey team was crowned ‘County Champions’ after beating Teesside High School and Red House, with the same group of girls winning the regional U-11 HMC North East Netball Championship.

The hockey team will now challenge for the Knock Out Cup, where they will face either Wakefield or Barnard Castle School in the final.

Yarm’s netball side progressed to the final of the HMC regional championship with a 10-2 win over St Olave’s before taking home the title with a 9-6 victory against the Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL).

Following their accomplishments, the team has advanced to the national championships, which will see 32 teams compete at Uppingham School on March 6, with the top eight schools going on to compete in the finals in Bristol.

Bill Sawyer, head of Yarm Preparatory School, said: “I am extremely proud of our talented netball and hockey teams, who have represented the school in an excellent manner and are a great advert for our sports programmes. The girls have trained really hard and put in a lot of effort to get where they are; it is fantastic to see them reap the rewards with two titles and the chance of winning even more.”

He added: “All those who have participated throughout the campaigns should be proud of their accomplishments. I would like to wish the girls all the best with their upcoming matches.”
