A CHARITY helping teenage cancer sufferers has been given an important boost by pupils at an independent school in the North-East.

Teesside High School pupils organised a series of fundraising events for Teenage Cancer Trust during "Have a Heart Week.

Year nine pupil Ciara Hurley was inspired to organise the series of events after the death of her friend, Georgina Anderson, from Markse-by-the-Sea.

A committee of students, including Rebecca Donaldson, Rachel Danks, Lucy Herring, Sophie Donaldson, Lucy Richardson and Phebe Chaudhry organised the week of fund raising activities.

They included a raffle, book and DVD exchange, non-uniform day, Game Station room, Sponge the Teacher and Sixth Former, Valentines Disco and a netball match against the Dinner Ladies.

Other students who helped throughout the week included Callum McMahon, Kit Barker, Julia Hopkins, Anna Charnock, Amber Hugill, Hannah McGloin and April Woodmansey.

Nicola Stephens, Assistant Head Teacher said: "Our students continually amaze and impress me with their generosity; not just monetary generosity but they are generous with their time and spirit. "A small group were inspired by a very sad situation and developed the idea, then organised everything to raise a fantastic sum of money for a worthy charity. They should be very proud of themselves, as we are of them".

So far more than 900 has been raised, with all funds raised going to the Teenage Cancer Trust.
