POLICE are appealing for information after an assault in Gateshead.
Around 5.45pm, on Monday (February 17) a 29-year-old man was in Leasyde Walk, Whickham, when he was approached by two men wearing masks and armed with baseball bats.
They chased him and the man ran into a house in Leasyde Walk to take shelter, however the men followed him into the address and assaulted him.
The two offenders then fled the scene. Officers believe they may have made their escape in a black hatchback style car.
The victim suffered a broken leg, cuts and bruises and was taken to the RVI hospital for treatment.
The occupants of the house the men ran into were left shocked by the incident but unharmed.
Police are appealing for anyone who was in the Leasyde Walk area on Monday evening and who saw the incident, or anything suspicious in the area around the time of the attack, to contact them on 101 ext 69191 quoting reference number 995 170214.
