YOUNG people in north Durham are taking part in a national welding competition.
Students from Derwentside College will battle it out in The Great British Weld-Off, a skills contest to find the top young welders in the country.
The competition will see four teams of contestants aged 16-26 from colleges across the country go head to head in a series of challenges.
The aim is to showcase their skills and knowledge of the welding industry.
The contest will reward the winning team with a host of prizes, including a one year dedicated training programme with Morris Site Machinery and Speedy.
Phil Winnington, managing director at Morris Site Machinery, which organised the competition, said: “We can’t wait to see the apprentices and students in action at the weld-off later this month.”
“We have had a great deal of interest in this new venture and the standard of entry was very high.”
The Weld-Off will take place at Morris Site Machinery’s headquarters in Wolverhampton on February 26.
