THREE young gymnasts flew the flag for the region when they went across the pond to compete against the world’s top rising stars.
Jade Armstrong, Amy Tinkler and Claudia Barkes took place in the prestigious WOGA Classic in Dallas, Texas, yesterday. (Saturday, March 8)
Jade, 15, from Spennymoor; Amy, 14, from Bishop Auckland; and Claudia, 14, of Greta Bridge, are all members of South Durham Gymnastics Club, in Spennymoor, County Durham.
In the junior category, Amy performed clean routines on the vault, asymmetric bars, balance beam and floor to take silver in the all-around competition.
She also took silver on the vault for her double twisting Yurchenko and gold on the floor with a new routine.
The results boost Amy’s hopes of qualifying the 2014 Junior European Championships in Bulgaria this May.
Jade Armstrong, looking to impress ahead of England Commonwealth Games selection, finished 5th all-around in the senior competition.
And fellow Great Britain squad member Claudia, who represented her club in the contest, won bronze on the beam.
