A RECRUITMENT poster for the Durham Light Infantry from the early 20th century was displayed at an annual book fair at the weekend.
An archive of memorabilia from the North-East regiment was also on sale at the Provincial Booksellers Fairs Association Book Fair, at County Hall in Durham City on Saturday.
There was also an exhibition put together by County Archivists in memory of those who lost their lives during the First World War.
The event attracted around 40 dealers and hundreds of members of the public who scoured thousands of collectable books.
The DLI poster stated “Any Smart Lad who wants GOOD PAY, GOOD FOOD, AND GOOD SPORT SHOULD JOIN THIS DISTINGUISHED REGIMENT”. Along with the regimental title and crest, it shows Private Skye, in Malta in 1853, from a sketch by one of the officers.
Fair Manager Gill Tiffin said: “Unfortunately, the poster did not sell but there was a tremendous amount of interest and lot of people looked at it.
“On August 4 it will be 100 years since the outbreak of the First World War and so many people were killed so it is very poignant.”
