BALLOONS and fireworks filled the sky above Darlington to celebrate what would have been the fourth birthday of hit-and-run victim, Danny Wake.
Crowds of people gathered in Lascelles Park on Saturday morning to pay tribute to the youngster, who was knocked down and killed on November 4 as he walked home from the town centre with his mother, younger brother and another young relative.
He had been into town to pick up an Argos catalogue so he could choose his Christmas presents.
Dozens of balloons, including ones decorated with pictures of his favourite toy, Buzz Lightyear, from the Toy Story films, were let off by participants who had gathered to pay their respects.
Despite repeated appeals by both police and his friends and family, the driver responsible for Danny’s death has so far not been traced.
Now Crimestoppers are offering a reward of £3,000 for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the driver of the vehicle that hit the three-year-old.
The incident happened at about 10.35am near the junction of Neasham Road and Falmer Road.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers on 0800-555111 or via their website at crimestoppers-uk.org or Durham Police on 101.
Rewards will only be payable for information passed to Crimestoppers - information passed to the police will not qualify.
