A COUNCILLOR has questioned the wisdom of demolishing two bungalows at a council headquarters.
Contractors are in the process of knocking down two bungalows at the entrance to County Hall, Durham.
They were formerly caretakers’ homes, but have been empty for some time.
Independent councillor John Shuttleworth said the bungalows were liveable and should be preserved.
Stuart Timmiss, the council’s head of planning and assets, said: “The County Hall site is identified as a key employment opportunity which could be redeveloped in the near future.
“The bungalows at the entrance hold an important position in any redevelopment plans and as such it is felt impractical to re-use the buildings.”
