HISTORY FILMS: Cinefilms showing Howden-le-Wear in the 1970s will be shown by Michael Haddon at Howden-le-Wear Community Centre on Tuesday, February 18, at 7pm, for the Howden-le-Wear Local History Society. The films will cover various aspects of village life, such as sport and carnivals. All are welcome.

COMPUTER CLASSES: Bishop Auckland College will run two computer courses at Stanhope Community Centre both starting on Tuesday, March 4. The first running from 1.30pm to 3.30pm, will cover internet shopping. The second will run from 4.15pm to 6.15pm covering spreadsheets for the terrified. YOUTH THEATRE: Jackass Youth Theatre will perform two plays at Bishop Auckland Town Hall on Friday, February 28, the first starting at 7.30pm. The youth theatre’s Wolsingham group will perform Deep in the Heart of the Forest while the Crook-based group will put on North Eastbenders. Tickets cost £3 from 03000-269524.

SWEET TREATS: A dinner and sweet treat club will meet at Cowshill Village Hall from noon to 2pm on Monday (February 17), with this week’s menu featuring mince and dumplings with potatoes and vegetables followed by trifle. The history group will meet afterwards. The meal will cost £5.

DOG CHIPPING: Durham County Council and Durham Police will run a free dog microchipping at St Thomas Parish Rooms in Front Street in Stanhope from 10am to 2pm on Saturday (February 15). Any dog who is over 12 weeks old and is up to date with its injections can be microchipped.
