A WIDOW is appealing for thieves to return the pendant given to her by her late husband.
The piece of jewellery was stolen along with a quantity of cash during a break-in at a house in the Westfields Estate, in Stanley.
Police say the homeowner, a 72-year-old woman, has been left distraught by the theft which took place on Saturday (Feb 8) at some time between 11am and 4pm.
PC Andy Gibson said: "This lady has been left distraught by this break in and would appeal to whoever has taken her pendant to return it.
"It may not be worth a lot of money but it has a lot of sentimental to the owner, she has lived in the same house for 44 years and this has understandably shaken by this incident.
"I would like to appeal to the directly to the person who took this pendant and ask them to return this as soon as possible".
Anyone with information is asked to ring Durham Police on 101 and ask to speak to Consett Volume Crime Team.
