THE incoming Bishop of Durham has formally taken an oath to The Queen in the last formal step before taking up his role later this month.
The Right Rev Paul Butler today (TUES) took the oath acknowledging Her Majesty The Queen as Sovereign and Supreme Governor.
Bishop Butler made the short visit across London to Buckingham Palace during an afternoon break from the general synod, where the Church of England is debating the ordination of women bishops.
On February 22, Bishop Butler will be enthroned as the 74th Bishop of Durham during a public service at Durham Cathedral.
