THE average North-East care home has been rated as being above the national average in a new survey.

The results from the 2013 Your Care Rating survey – which claims to be the UK’s largest survey of care home residents - have been released.

In the North-East 1,670 residents from 85 care homes run by nine different care home operators took part in the survey The results were analysed to give each an overall performance rating (OPR) out of 1,000.

The results paint an encouraging picture of life in the majority of care homes in the North-East which took part, with an average OPR score for participating homes of 902. This compares to the national average OPR score of 872.

In the North-East the highest score achieved was 987 and the lowest was 741.
