TWO lifesavers are to compete in the Lifesaving World Championships later this year.
Myles Strudwick, 35, from Thirsk, and 15-year-old Jasmine Dixon from Bedale will compete as part of the Blyth Lifeguard and Swimming Club team in Montpellier, France, in September.
And the pair are appealng for sponsorship from local business or individuals to help towards the cost of competing.
Originally four lifesavers from Bedale were eligible for selection but the other two had to pull out due to school commitments.
Mr Strudwick has been involved with lifesaving for several years and in 2012 he took the Masters title in the annual National Lifesaving Championships.
He runs a weekly Rookie Lifesaving group at Bedale Leisure Centre.
Jasmine, who has been training with the group since she was 11, has recently achieved her assistant instructor award and is currently starting employment at the centre to coach new lifesavers while continuing to train and study for more advance awards.
The World Championships will see both pool and beach events.
Pool events include speed swimming and rescue with rescue manikins, line throw and simulated emergency response, whilst on the beach events will include running, sea swimming and body boards.
Both Mr Strudwick and Jasmine are now embarking on a rigorous training programme to develop strength, stamina and fitness, and to hone their skills, ready to face lifesaving talent from around the world.
Anyone interested in sponsorship can contact Bedale Leisure Centre on 01677-427272.
