A NORTH Yorkshire bakery impressed upmarket festival-goers with their canapes to progress to the next round of a national television talent competition.
The Angel's Share bakery, based at The Station, Richmond, has made it through to the last four of Britain's Best Bakery, which is running on ITV each night this week.
In tonight's (Monday's) show, the five remaining semi-finalists were faced with a mass catering challenge, making 100 savoury and 100 sweet canapes for a black tie reception at Henley Festival.
The Angel's Share, represented by Alex Franks and Di Dinsdale, chose cured trout outcakes for their savoury dish, which proved a hit with both the festival guests and the judges.
Judge Peter Sidwell said the pair had "played a blinder" in selecting locally sourced ingredients, including Whitby sea trout.
The other judge, cake-maker Mitch Turner, thought the bakers had "played it too simple" with their sweet canape offering, a raspberry and chocolate meringue.
But both judges were sufficiently impressed to send The Angel's Share through to the next round, when the remaining contestants will be baking for the Chelsea Pensioners.
After the results were announced, a delighted Mrs Franks said: "We know what were up against now, so weve got to ramp it up."
The second semi-final of Britain's Best Bakery will be shown on ITV tomorrow (Tuesday) at 4pm.
