A CITIZENS' Advice Bureau branch is calling for volunteers to help run the vital local service.
Richmondshire and Hambleton Bureau has seen the recession and changes to benefits have adverse effects on the lives of residents and is looking for more people to help support those in need.
The service provides advice and assistance on almost any issue but sees many people regarding money problems, issues at work, problems with benefits, or housing issues.
It also works in conjunction with the local authorities to prevent homelessness, an issue that is on the increase nationally, especially with those under 25.
Carol Shreeve, manager of the Hambleton and Richmondshire Bureau said: “Volunteering with us offers people of any background the opportunity to develop their skills while contributing to their community.
“In our bureau for example, our volunteers undertake all sorts of tasks, but most of them work in an advisory role. This could be providing advice and assistance by phone, email, or face to face in the bureau or at one of our other venues throughout the two districts.”
“I am hugely grateful to all of the fantastic people in our bureau who give up their time to help us deliver the advice to our clients which, in the face of such a tough pressure on people’s personal finances is more vital than ever."
Simon Farquhar, service manager of Richmond office, added: “It’s not just worthwhile; volunteering can also be fantastic fun and hugely rewarding. Full training is given and travelling expenses are paid too. "
