THE TEAM behind a much-loved North-East pub is celebrating after netting more awards to add to a fast-growing collection.
Real ale and rock bar The Quakerhouse has been named CAMRA Darlington Town Pub of the Year and Darlington Overall Pub of the Year for 2014.
The prestigious awards come just weeks after regulars and staff gathered to celebrate winning the 2013 CAMRA North East Pub of the Year Award.
The cosy pub, nestled in the town’s Mechanics Yard, has received several accolades in recent years – an achievement its staff believe is down to a winning blend of real ale and live music.
Manager Shelly Allan said: “Our range of beer and the quality we keep it at is one thing that keeps people coming back.
“It comes down to having a passion for real ale and our dedication to live music makes us quite individual – it’s all about the beer and the music.
“We sell beers from all over the country but also try to stock a lot of local products as it’s important to us to support local businesses and breweries.”
She added: “It’s brilliant to win, especially knowing the awards are voted for by CAMRA members. “These people are serious about their beer and it is quite humbling to think they think so much of us.”
The atmospheric pub is housed in a building that dates back to the 1700s and is now owned by unassuming Brian Dourish who plans to carry on the good work by expanding the range of available ales and hosting more live music events.
