A MOTORCYCLIST has died a motorcyclist died after colliding with a car near the entrance to a caravan park. The 25-year-old Harrogate man, who has not been named, crashed his black Triumph Daytona motorbike on the A59 beside High Moor Farm, near the town, at 5.10pm on Sunday (February 9). He was taken to Harrogate District Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police said the road had been busy at the time of the crash and urged witnesses to call 101 or email sean.grey@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk
GREEN BOOST: Recycling rates in Harrogate district have risen by nine per cent in a year. Harrogate Borough Council said 39 per cent of domestic waste from the 62,000 homes in the area was recycled from October to December, following the introduction of a wheeled bin recycling service last summer. Since July 2012, the service has saved £724,000 a year in landfill tax.
FARMERS UNITE: Members of the farming community have gathered to remember the devastation caused by the 2001 foot and mouth outbreak. A record 170 people attended Thirsk Auction Mart’s dinner-dance at Ripon Spa Hotel. Auctioneer Tony Thompson said everybody in the farming community had vivid memories of the outbreak. He said: “I think people are more or less over it now, but the dinner-dance is a reminder for people to be vigilant.”
