TWENTY-one North-East couples have taken part in a nationwide attempt to set a new world record.
The Big Promise aimed to break the world record for the number of couples renewing their wedding vows – currently 1,089, set in Ohio, USA, in 2009.
Sunderland Minster was the only North-East church taking part and there 21 couples from across the region reaffirmed their vows before taking afternoon tea together on Saturday (February 8).
Graeme Jobes, of Ashbrooke, Sunderland, reaffirmed his vows to wife Hollie.
“We originally married in New York at a civil ceremony which was great but we felt we wanted to make our vows in church.
“I’m a very lucky man and Hollie has been the core that has kept me going through some tough times.”
Whether a new world record was set has not yet been announced.
