THE family of a young man who was struck down by a brain tumour have raised more than £2,000 for charity in his honour.
Matthew Greenwood, 23, was diagnosed with a very rare type of tumour last May. It was particularly difficult to treat because it was close to the centre of his brain.
He underwent two major operations and seven weeks of radiotherapy and since October has been in remission.
Approaching her 60th birthday, Mr Greenwood’s mother Glynis Brown decided to turn her party into a ‘Dance for Life’ fundraiser for Brain Tumour Research.
The bash was held at Waterhouses village hall, County Durham, on Saturday night (February 8).
All 110 tickets sold out and the event raised around £1,000, taking the family’s overall charity total to about £2,000.
Mrs Brown said: “It was fantastic. It was an amazing night. Everybody was up dancing and enjoying themselves.
“I’d like to thank everyone for their support.”
Mrs Brown said brain tumour research gets only between one and two per cent of all cancer research funding, despite being the biggest cancer killer of among under-24s.
