A MAN has died in hospital almost a week after he was involved in a collision with a taxi in the early hours of the morning.
Durham Police have renewed an appeal for witnesses to the collision, which happened on Victoria Road, Darlington, at the junction with the Grange Road roundabout, at 12.30am on Sunday, February 2.
The male pedestrian, who has not yet been identified, died from his injuries on Friday, February 7. He is believed to be aged in his early 30s and not from the local area.
The taxi, a Skoda Octavia, was travelling east on Victoria Road when it was involved in a collision with a pedestrian, who was walking in the road.
Sergeant Peter Tate, from Durham Police, said: “The pedestrian had been walking in Grange Road, in the direction of Victoria Road. The pedestrian was in the carriageway, into the path of the taxi, which was unable to avoid the collision.”
The pedestrian suffered multiple injuries and was taken to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough.
The road was closed for four hours while the man was treated and police enquiries were carried out.
Witnesses to the collision are asked to call the collisions investigation team on 0191-375-2159.
