A 19-YEAR-OLD man died when the car he was travelling in was involved in a three car smash this evening on the A174 Brotton Bypass, east Cleveland.
The teenager, who was a passenger in a black Vauxhall Corsa, suffered multiple injuries and was declared dead at the scene.
Another passenger in the Corsa, an 18-year-old woman, was taken to James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough, where she is in a stable condition.
The driver of the Corsa, a 19-year-old man, was also taken to the hospital for treatment for minor injuries and was later discharged.
A spokesman for Cleveland Police said that a 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
The other two cars involved in the collision, which happened at 5pm, were a grey Audi estate and a white Volkswagen Scirocco.
A man driving the Audi and a woman driving the Scirocco received minor injuries.
Rapid Response Paramedics attended the scene as did the Great North Air Ambulance with a doctor-led trauma team aboard.
