A TRAIN enthusiast is holding an exhibition to celebrate the arrival of a record breaking steam locomotive.
John Wigston, 74, of Hartlepool, spent 18 months creating 25 watercolour and pencil paintings for display at Locomotion: The National Railway Museum at Shildon.
The former lab technician said: “I’m a real train enthusiast and it was almost a labour of love to create the pictures.”
Mr Wigston’s display ties in with the museum’s Great Goodbye exhibition featuring the A4 class Mallard and its five sister steam engines.
The visit of the historic engines is part of a series of events to mark the locomotive becoming the world’s fastest steam engine on July 3, 1938.
The exhibition runs until Monday, February 24 and entry is free. For more details, call 01388-777999.
