YOUNG people from the North-East have been learning about life in the two chambers of the Houses of Parliament.
Baroness Angela Harris, of Richmond, deputy speaker of the House of Lords, visited St Bede’s School in Lanchester, near Consett, County Durham.
The former Richmond mayor, who was an air stewardess before entering politics, was made a Liberal Democrat life peer in 1999.
She spoke to A-level politics student about current affairs, the political system and her party’s role within the Coalition Government.
North-West Durham MP Pat Glass also attended and spoke to young people her role in the House of Commons.
Headteacher Neville Harrison said: “I was very impressed with the level of maturity showed by the students and the level of interest they have in politics.
“They covered some very important issues and asked some very intelligent questions.”
