IT’S curtain up for a student film festival this weekend (February 7-9).
The Durham Film Festival 2014, organised by Durham University’s Student Film Society, will run from Friday to Sunday.
There will be film screenings, workshops and talks from people in the industry.
The festival will kick off with an event showcasing films made by students, in Dunelm House, New Elvet, Durham, on Friday at 8.30pm.
Tickets, priced £2, are available on the door. Afterwards, there will be an awards ceremony.
On Saturday there will be a series of free talks, including by independent film maker Louise Orton and make-up artist Jessica Alexander in room ER141, Elvet Riverside, New Elvet, at 1.30pm.
Sunday will see the culmination of the festival, including a workshop and talk by two-time Oscar-winning cinematographer Chris Menges in St Hild and St Bede College, off Gilesgate, from 11am.
Lyle Bushe, president of Durham Student Film Society, said: “This year we have received over 50 submissions from around the world and we will be showcasing the best of them on Friday night.
“We also have some really prestigious speakers who are keen to share their experiences with anyone interested in the film industry.”
