ALL that sizzles is gold at an award-winning North-East farm shop.
Dropswell Farm Shop and Cafe, near Trimdon Village in County Durham, scooped gold awards for five of its homemade pork products at the British Pig Executive’s regional road show last month.
Pork and caramelised onion pie, pork leak and bacon pie, chorizo, air-dried ham and sobrasada, a spreadable salami, all received the top rating from the judging panel, which included butchers and bakers.
Its remaining four entries, traditional pork pie, dry-cured middle bacon, pork sausage and Sonnet beer sausage, received silver awards.
This year, more than 60 butchers from across the North-East and Yorkshire attended the road show in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, and almost 1,000 pork products were tasted and scrutinised.
Christine Craddock, who runs Dropswell Farm Shop and Cafe with her husband Paul, a talented butcher, said the couple were thrilled to have done so well.
“It is really nice to know that people appreciate all the hard work that goes into what we do,” she said.
“We make everything in the traditional way and to impress experienced professionals in the field is extra special.
“It is exciting times here at Dropswell, as we have a new butcher starting next week. We would like to thank all our customers for their support.”
