POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a vehicle carrying out a dangerous overtaking manoeuvre caused another car to crash, leaving a mother and daughter in hospital.
The incident took place on the A66 on the outskirts of Darlington at 5.15pm on Tuesday (February 4).
The mother and daughter had just passed the Brick Train sculpture heading towards Teesside when they came across a car on the wrong side of the road overtaking other vehicles.
They swerved to avoid it and crashed off the road, hitting a tree.
Both were taken to hospital but have since been released.
Police said their car has been completely written off and are appealing for anyone who saw the incident, or a car being driven in a dangerous manner, to contact them.
PC Paul Dickenson, of Darlington Police, said: "There would have been a lot of traffic at that time and this car is said to have been in and out of traffic.
"We would like anyone with any information, or who saw a car driving particularly recklessly at that time, to get in touch."
Witnesses can contact PC Dickenson via the 101 police non-emergency number.
