A MAN is being monitored after barricading himself in a Scarborough hotel room and threatening to self harm.

North Yorkshire Police arrived at the Brindley Hotel on North Marine Road, Scarborough at 8.30am today, after receiving a call about fears for his safety.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: “On arrival at the hotel police found a man who had locked himself inside a room and was threatening to harm himself.”

Police officers remained at the scene until 11.45am when the man came out of the room after talking with officers.

North Yorkshire police said: “Following negotiations with specially trained officers, the man left the room of his own accord at 11.45am and is currently in police custody.”
