A RIDING school is set to transport horse fans to the Wild West with skills such as lassoing cattle, barrel racing, and riding in full Western tack.
Emma Chapman, from Hill Top Farm Equestrian in Ilton, near Masham, North Yorkshire, who delivers courses and clinics for both horses and riders, is now offering Western days and camps for adults and children.
She said: “I got into Western riding about eight years ago and started competing.
“I work with problem horses and unconfident riders and found that the Western style is very good for this because it allows the horse and rider to be more relaxed and use body language rather than pulling on reins as commands.
“Horses get used to the style very quickly and are very responsive to it. I’ve taught a lot of people who thought their horse would not be able to do it but have been surprised at how they picked it up.”
Ms Chapman, who competes in Western and English riding competitions, is introducing a series of Western days and camps, which include tuition from a Western Equestrian Society tutor, the chance to ride in Western tack, play games and learn manoeuvres.
She said: “It is really good fun and in a relaxed and friendly environment. We cater for all age groups and all abilities.
“It is also a great introduction for those who are not used to riding horses.”
The next Western day is on Saturday, February 8, from 10am until 4.30pm. For more details visit http://www.hilltop-equestrian.co.uk.
