A PEDESTRIAN was knocked over and injured while crossing the road on an industrial estate yesterday morning (Monday, February 3).
The victim, who is in his late teens, was wearing a high visibility jacket when he was struck by a white Vauxhall Corsa on Horndale Avenue in Aycliffe Business Park, Newton Aycliffe, County Durham.
He suffered a suspected fracture to his knee during the accident, which occurred at around 7.15am.
Although the driver initially stopped and got out of his vehicle, he did not offer to help and is said to have hurled abuse at the young man before fleeing the scene.
The driver was white and is believed to be in his twenties.
He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and tracksuit bottoms with blue stripes.
The victim did not catch the registration number of the vehicle but noticed it had black alloys and a double exhaust.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information about the driver is asked to contact PCSO Mike Hutchinson at Newton Ayciffe Police on 101, quoting incident number DHM-03022014-0193.
