A REWARD of £3,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the driver of the car that hit and killed a three-year-old boy.

Danny Wake, from Darlington, was knocked down on November 4 as he walked home from the town centre with his mother, younger brother and another young relative.

He had been into town to pick up an Argos catalogue so he could choose his Christmas presents.

Today (Tuesday, February 4), three months on from the incident, his mother, Kayren Winter, has urged anyone who knows what happened to Danny to contact Crimestoppers, which is offering the reward.

She said: “We cannot begin to describe how difficult and painful the last three months have been for our family.

“Our lives changed forever on November 4 last year when our beautiful little boy Danny was taken from us.

“What has made it so much harder is not knowing why this has happened. Three months later we still need answers to the questions we have.”

The incident happened at about 10.35am near the junction of Neasham Road and Falmer Road.

Despite extensive and repeated appeals by both police and Danny's friends and family, the driver responsible for the youngster's death has so far not been traced.

Crimestoppers’ North-East regional manager, Dave Hunter, said: “This is a heartbreaking time for Danny’s family as they continue to try to come to terms with his tragic death.

A spokeswoman for Durham Constabulary said officers were still trying to establish exactly what happened to Danny and were keeping an open mind as to how the incident happened.
