A FORMER library building which is taking on a new lease of life at the heart of an ex-colliery community opens its doors to the public tomorrow (Tuesday, February 4).
Just months after closing as a traditional book-lending facility, a new chapter is beginning in the history of the former Silksworth Library, in Sunderland, as it develops as a new community events venue.
Silksworth Heritage Group stages an open day, at the premises in Beckwith Mews, to encourage more people to come along and find out about the history of their area.
Running from 11am to 3pm, it will feature an exhibition and slideshow of old photographs of Silksworth, formerly a traditional pit village in the heart of the Durham Coalfield, plus information and advice for people keen to research their family history.
