ON World Cancer Day (Tuesday, February 4) health experts are stressing the importance of seeing a health professional if you spot symptoms that could be associated with cancer.
Patients in the region are being advised to see their GP as soon as possible if they notice a change to their body, such as lumps or unexplained bleeding.
Dr Mike Guy, medical director for the NHS England Durham, Darlington and Tees area team, said: “Swift treatment is vital when it comes to all types of cancer, so diagnosing the problem as soon as possible gives patients the best chance of making a full recovery.
“If you think your symptoms could be associated with cancer, it’s important to go and see your GP, who can put your mind at ease or help you get the treatment you need.
“Taking care of yourself and performing regular checks can help you notice any changes as soon as they occur.”
