AN angler who has gone missing from the Scarborough coastline has been named.

Nigel Savage, 49, from Beverley, was reported missing by his family in the early hours of this morning after he did not return from a fishing trip with his two springer spaniels to Hundale Point, Burniston, near Scarborough, North Yorkshire.

Humberside Police said his green Peugeot 206 car was found in a lay-by at Crook Ness, Field Lane, Burniston and the two springer spaniel dogs were located at the cliffs nearby.

 

His rucksack and some fishing tackle have been located on the cliffs but there is no sign of Mr Savage.

A woman saw the dogs and his rucksack at 4pm yesterday (Thursday, January 30) but did not see Mr Savage.

 

Mr Savage is described as white, 6ft tall with a medium build. He is bald with facial stubble and has green eyes. He is believed to be wearing dark-coloured Craghopper trousers and a dark outdoor jacket.

The search for Mr Savage has involved an RAF search and rescue and helicopter, as well as lifeboat teams and the Coastguard.

Scarborough RNLI’s two lifeboats have been temporarily stood down during the ongoing search for the off Burniston cliffs.

The search was concentrated on the cliffs, shoreline and sea at Hundale Point and Cloughton Wyke, just north of Scarborough.
