A FIVE-MILE walk in the New Year is being organised to give people a chance to start shedding excess Christmas pounds.
Hartlepool Borough Council's countryside wardens and the Fens Residents' Association have joined forces to organise the circular stroll, on Tuesday.
The route will take walkers from Fens estate to Summerhill and back.
Steve Cooper, countryside warden, said: "This is an excellent way to shake off that seasonal sluggishness and face the new year feeling fit and invigorated. Most of the route will be on firm paths, so we shouldn't get too muddy. There is also the added bonus of a break at the Summerhill Visitor Centre before the return leg of the walk."
Everyone is welcome to take part. Walkers are advised to take a drink and a snack, and wear sturdy footwear and warm clothing.
The walk will start at 10am and last about three-and-a-half hours. It starts at the pumping station off Newark Road at the Fens. For further information, call 01429-853325 or 07785-371513
