ONE of the region's most renowned DJs will appear at a new venue next month.

Paul Taylor, who is the resident at the Retro night in Yarm, near Stockton, will be on the decks in Bishop Auckland, County Durham.

Retro is one of the longest-running nights in the history of dance music, attracting 4,000 people every month, and the Lancashire-born DJ has a big following.

He has played in some of the biggest clubs in the world including Pacha in Ibiza, and he will appear at the Queen's Head in Bishop Auckland on Saturday, January 20.

His services have been secured by a group of three local DJs and promoters who are hoping to revitalise the town's Market Place under the name of Rise.

One of the promoters, Nick Salt, said: "We aim to generate a renewed interest in the Market Place by promoting a warm, friendly atmosphere, with the emphasis on giving people the opportunity to experience a big night out on their own doorstep.

"To have someone of this stature, playing an event in Bishop Auckland is previously unheard of.

"Paul's name alone has attracted the attention of people as far away as Burnley who are making the trip up north to support what promises to be a memorable night."

Tickets cost £8 and are available from Bar Mondo or Hair Haus in the town, or at the door.
