THE Wild West comes to Richmond as the town's operatic society began rehearsals for Calamity Jane.

The group will start to prepare for its next show at the operatic hall, in Bargate, at 7.30pm on Tuesday, January 9.

The show will be staged in the town's Georgian Theatre Royal in May, and new singers are welcomed to join the cast.

Jennifer Gilby, of the society, said: "It is a fantastic show -a personal favourite -that requires some great female voices.

"While we have some excellent ones, it never hurts to have more. Also, as with most operatic societies, we could always use some more men."

The first rehearsal is a read- and sing-through before auditions and full rehearsals under the guidance of director Jodie Holliday and musical director Alan Owens.

New members can turn up for the first session.
