SIX people from across the region have enlisted in a number of Army regiments.
The group, who joined up in Darlington, include a medical technician,an infantry soldier, a vehicle mechanic, two ammunition technicians and a systems communicator.
Samuel Kerr, 22, from Richmond, North Yorkshire, is joining the Royal Engineers.
He will undertake training in Lichfield, Staffordshire, before embarking upon his career as a systems communicator.
Nathan Lavery, 17, also from Richmond, will train at the Infantry Training Centre, Catterick, before joining The Light Infantry.
Lucy Poynton, 18, from Darlington, is to undertake 14 weeks of training before joining the Royal Army Medical Corps as a medical technician.
Graham Pickering, from Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, will join the Royal Logistic Corps as an ammunition technician after he finishes training at Winchester.
The Army Foundation College in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, will be the first port of call for 16-year-olds James Robinson and Daniel Ridley, both from Darlington.
James will then train as a vehicle mechanic with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, and Daniel will join the Royal Logistic Corps to train as an ammunition technician.
