Friends, relatives and well-wishers were partying in Witton-le-Wear yesterday, to celebrate the 100th birthday of resident Mary Boden.
Children from Witton-le-Wear school sang carols, the landlord of the Victoria Inn offered drinks and even Father Christmas dropped in on the party, which was held in the village community centre.
Mrs Boden, who moved to Witton-le-Wear when she retired 35 years ago, said: "I've had a wonderful day."
Mrs Boden was born in West Yorkshire. She worked at Cleckheaton woollen mill from the age of 12 to 65.
She enjoys bingo and dominoes and tackling The Northern Echo's Saturday wordsearches.
She has travelled extensively throughout Europe and has three great-grandchildren.
Her daughter, Pat Jones, who lives next door to her, said: "Some relatives have come a long way. She was seeing people she hadn't seen for 35 years and, it seems, everyone from the village is here.
"I'd like to thank everyone who has helped with the party."
