CLEAN and tidy toilets have won council officials a double national award.
Stockton Borough Council is flushed with pride at gaining the Loo of the Year Awards.
The ceremony was held at the NEC in Birmingham in November, where there was tough competition from across the UK.
This is the first time Stockton has entered the competition, which has been running for 20 years, and Stockton won not only a five-star award but also attendant of the year award for the Shambles toilets in central Stockton.
The award-winning attendants are, for the ladies, ladies, Jean Cavanagh, Theresa Hawkins and Rachael Hicks, and for the gentlemen Paul Kavanagh and Keith Ramsay.
Councillor Steve Nelson, the council's cabinet member for the environment, said: "I am bowled over at our success and let us hope that this is a chain reaction for is to win another award next year.
"In all seriousness, this is a wonderful achievement and I congratulate our attendant of the year award along with everyone involved in the care for your area team."
