In their recently published report, Shine a Light, UKCF, the umbrella organisation for all community foundations, identified that large numbers of people across the UK are passionate about their communities, providing many with friendship, support, and a sense of belonging. The study, which aimed to understand the role of community in modern society and its connection to charitable giving, reinforces what many charities working at a local level across the UK know- when we connect people with their community, it becomes a powerful means of helping others in a way that often achieves lasting impact.
We at County Durham Community Foundation join the Shine a Light campaign which has set a challenging target of raising £1 billion in new giving to local community causes by 2020.
It was discovered that more than half (51.4%) of adults in the North East would give more if it was easier to give locally and if they were able to see the direct impact of their donation. That is exactly what we do here at CDCF. We aim to bring together donors with their chosen causes, providing grants that make a genuine difference to the lives of local people in County Durham and Darlington.
